Kayak: La Poza for all

Every week, we travel just outside of town to a picturesque laguna that is only accessed by canoe, kayak or row boat. First we have to put ourselves in the water and kayak through la Poza, a very nice and quiet body of water created by multiple lahars. This word from indonesian origin is a volcanic phenomenon similar to an avalanche et landslide combined. It is the most dangerous consequence of an eruption, and can happen much after the end of the eruption as the materials left, usually ashes and other pyroclastics are not yet fixed and subject to fast erosion. It this case, it opened and enlarge a natural river bed at the bottom of the Calbuco volcano.

After paddling around the Loreley Island, we continue into that narrow and shallow channel under the leaves and branches of the weeping willows, the perfect romantic spot to watch the kingfisher.

At the beginner level, this half day trip is suitable for everybody; locals and tourists alike, families with children 8+ years of age, new and experienced paddlers, Laguna La Poza is a short getaway that doesn't disappoint. Take a peak at some of these photos to get a feel for the excursion. If you are interested in knowing this place, you can reserve the tour with us for you and your friends or family anytime of the year. The departures are at 9AM and 2PM. Have a good day!
